The ‘Zayed and Rashid’ initiative promises a vibrant blend of cultural, musical, and heritage events across the city to mark 53 years of the UAE’s Union.
Dubai has unveiled an exciting new campaign to celebrate key national milestones, including UAE Flag Day and the 53rd UAE National Day (Eid Al Etihad). The month-long initiative, which begins on November 3 and runs through December 3, aims to honor the UAE’s founding fathers, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, while bringing the community together for a rich tapestry of events. This campaign, organized in collaboration with 16 government, semi-government, and private sector entities, promises something for everyone.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, emphasized the importance of this initiative in preserving and celebrating the legacy of the UAE’s founding fathers. Under the banner of the ‘Zayed and Rashid’ initiative, the campaign will include a diverse range of cultural, recreational, and educational experiences that showcase the UAE’s unique heritage and modern achievements.
Fireworks and Festive Lights
Spectacular fireworks will take center stage during the festivities. On December 2 and 3, the skies over iconic locations such as JBR Beach, Al Seef, Hatta, and Dubai Festival City Mall will light up with breathtaking displays. In addition, Global Village will host daily firework shows throughout the campaign, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Major parks, landmarks like the Dubai Frame, Dubai Safari Park, and the Clock Tower roundabout will be adorned with dazzling lights, ensuring the city radiates celebration.
Seasonal Markets and Cultural Exhibitions
The festivities will feature a range of seasonal markets, including Beach Canteen, Ripe Market, and Winter Wonderland. These markets will offer Emirati-themed activities, local cuisine, and unique retail experiences, perfect for visitors looking to immerse themselves in the country’s rich traditions.
A highlight of the celebrations will be the ‘Union Day Parade,’ which will take place on December 2 at City Walk. Organized in collaboration with Watani Al Emarat, the parade will showcase traditional dances and performances, providing a carnival-like atmosphere filled with vibrant cultural displays.
A Journey Through History at Museums
The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) will host a series of special events at cultural landmarks like Hatta Heritage Village and Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. Visitors will be able to explore the UAE’s rich history and traditions through interactive exhibits, theatrical performances, and heritage activities that bring the past to life.
At Al Shindagha Museum, the UAE’s largest open-air heritage museum, visitors will experience a comprehensive cultural journey. The museum will revive historical homes through engaging performances and displays, connecting the past with the present. Additionally, the Etihad Museum will focus on the history of the UAE’s Union, with exhibitions that tell the story of the nation’s founding and development.
Musical Performances at Expo City Dubai
Expo City Dubai will serve as a hub for musical and cultural events, headlined by the Firdaus Orchestra’s ‘Union Symphony’ concert. The orchestra will perform a selection of beloved Emirati national songs in two free public concerts at the iconic Al Wasl Plaza. The plaza will also feature the Emirati Harvest Market, showcasing locally grown products in a festive atmosphere adorned with UAE flags and traditional décor.
Cultural Displays at Dubai Airports
Dubai’s international airports will also be transformed to mark the occasion. Special areas will be dedicated to Eid Al Etihad celebrations, focusing on the UAE’s maritime heritage. Arriving visitors will be greeted with traditional songs and cultural performances, ensuring the spirit of the UAE is felt from the moment they step foot in Dubai.
Throughout the month, Dubai residents and visitors alike can expect a rich celebration of Emirati heritage, culture, and unity. The ‘Zayed and Rashid’ initiative promises to be a fitting tribute to the UAE’s journey, showcasing its traditions while highlighting its modern achievements.
